The International Oud Festival in the Moroccan city of Tetouan awarded Emirati oud player Ali Obaid Al-Hafiti, General Director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Fujairah, the Ziryab Skills Award for the year 2022, in recognition of his prominent role in the renewal and development of Arabic music.
This came during the participation of the Fujairah Academy of Fine Arts in the activities of the 23rd Oud Festival, organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication in the Kingdom of Morocco, at the Espanyol Theater in Tetouan, with the wide participation of string instrument players from various countries of the world.
The artist, Ali Obaid Al-Hafiti, is considered the first Emirati artist to receive the Ziryab Award for Skills, which was established at the initiative of musician Hassan Makri, Chairman of the National Music Committee in Morocco, and sponsored by the International Music Council (House of UNESCO) in Paris.
The Ziryab Award is considered one of the most important national awards in the field of music, as it is awarded annually to an artistic figure with high-quality musical production.
The Fujairah Arts Academy also participated in the festival's closing activities with a group of musical pieces, from the compositions of the Emirati artist Ali Obaid Al-Hafiti, which he presented, the most prominent of which was a rhythmic piece dedicated to the city of Tetouan. Al-Hafiti also played Lunga Nahawand, a piece called Rababa Journey, and Samai Kurd.
